I love training with others both on road and trail. I also find benefits of running solo when I need to focus and regroup.

Fun fact: Although I prefer to run outside, I don't mind the treadmill for pace accountability and for the blind assumption that I can run really fast. I have a lot of secret treadmill PR's at 0% incline:)

Cross traning at the gym today. 3 miles on the elliptical and some weights. Got called early to the daycare, so 70 mins today, will resume more tomorrow.

Cross training all week. Legs are coming back and should be close to 100% very soon. Today at the gym I did 30 minutes total of spin and elliptical, then 45 minutes of my lifting plan. Legs were wimpy today, but arms were champs!

Looking to speed things up a bit and start doing more 5k-10k training starting late next week-I registerd for a Thanksgiving race. Excited to change things up a bit.

Do any of you take a season off? I am assuming everyone does to a degree. If so, how long do you take off from racing?

More cross training. 60+  mins on elliptical and bike. 6.5 miles of cross train. Abs, roller and streaching followed close behind. I seriously wanted to fall asleep the enitre time I was on the elliptical. In fact, I was watching a show at the gym and wondered if anyone would think it was wierd if I just laid on the ground and watched the movie.

Went to the gym and did the same old boring cross training stuff for 90 minutes with weights. 7 miles total. Then I ran a mile to take attendance on all my limbs. Good news! All are accounted for, but my right calf muscle and left hammy are still tight.

After that I drove home and remembered I forgot to pick up my son for early out. Mother of the year award has already passed. I then raided my kids Halloween bags and was surprised to see all the good stuff was still there. I later learned why when my daughter asked me when they would be able to start eating their Halloween candy. She reminded me that I told them Monday night that they were all done eating their candy. They took it literally and have been salivating over their bags for the past week. I can't believe they listened to me. That makes me feel bad now. Candy for dinner tonight. Mother of the year is coming back!

This morning KamAndy, and I ran on Legacy Trail for a nice Saturday run. 12.5 total with 8:04 AP. This was my first real run after the half. It was slightly more ambitious than what I would have normally done, but I couldn't refuse the company. The pace felt just fine, a little cold but the air was so nice. I my right calf and left hammy decided to ditch out on the run with the last 1.5 miles left, so I had a slight limp join me for the remaining 1.25, then made everyone walk the last .25 for cool down up the hill.

Kam reminded me in not so many words, that I might not have anything to brag about so I should tell you that we ran through 4 cities; NSL, Woods Cross, Bountiful, Centerville and Farmington:) Now I feel validated. Great run and nice to meet Andy for the first time. Anyone else around that wants to join, we are thinking of Saturday runs on weekends that we're not racing.

Afterwards, drank a big glass of milk with some NSAIDs , then laid in a hot tub reading the latest Runners World. Then put on compression sleeves with a little stretching. Ahhhh,  now time to clean the entire house before the in-laws come tonight.

Gosh, I have really slacked this week. I've been busy with other things, good things. I let this happen since I'm not training for anything right now, except for a thanksgiving race that I am doing just for fun.

Today I ran a mile and then didn't want to anymore so I didn't. I did 6 more miles of cross training doing spin, elliptical, and  then joined the last 45 minutes of a body combat class. I'm not a "class" person, but the instructor saw me looking in and pulled me in. I think she felt bad for me and thought I was intimidated to come in. Really I was looking in at them while I was totally thinking of something non related. Then when she ran out and invited me I  gracefully declined her invitation. I think that made her feel more sorry for me and  insisted that I come in. So not really sure what the class was about, since I couldn't recall what they were doing, I went in and threw a few mediocre kicks and uppercuts. I tried to look cool and coordinated, but once again I knew I was cool  just not coordinated:) The best part was the sounds the instructor made and the sounds the usuals made back. "RAW! (raw), YAH (yah), He YA! (he ya)" and the best, "UH UH YA! (uh uh ya)". I loved how involved everyone was. It reminded me of how runners will talk to each other and encourage each other during fartlek and indian ladder workouts. Maybe that is their language. HE YA RAW YAH UH UH YA!

Today I met with a group of girls to run Bountiful Blvd. Cold, but great company. Around 7:45 pace, so I was told.

Huh. I've got some burn out going on for sure. Not too excited to do any speed work for this upcoming race, or even run for that matter. Huh. Otherwise things are good!:)

Today I had plans to get a quality run in on the treadmill. After 3.5 miles I got a call to pick up my sick daughter from school. So the last mile I turned it up to 6:11. Felt fine. Wish I could have gone around 8 miles, more tomorrow.

If you want to race fast, you have to train fast, so I was told. But a total BLAH fest transitioning marathon training to 5k.

Today was the first 5k speed workout. Decided to start a little more conservative since I didn't know how running under 6:00 would feel. I put on the Kinvara's and did 6x400's and 1x800 with equal rest. Paces were 5:21, 5:21, then 5:18 for the rest, including the 800. The 400's weren't too bad at all, but the last 800 was not fun.

After that I did 3x4:00 minute intervals on the row. Then core and stretching.

Still feeling sick, but was able to make it to the gym for 4 very slow cross training miles on the elliptical. At one point I stopped due to threatening to loose my breakfast. It's funny, the lady next to me told me that maybe I needed to go slower. That was weird, but nice input:) Next week's race will be interesting:)

I had big plans for the workout today, but it didn't happen. Planned on 4x1000 and 4x800 alternating so I warmed up but started to feel sick again with no energy, so I bagged it. Why not. Ended up running 1.5 miles, 4x3 min intervals on the elliptical and some lazy spinning. 60 mins total and with cross training 6.5 miles total.

Nine cold ones down Main. Took it easy, well, no choice really. I've either lost some fitness or still just weak coming off illness, prob both. But actually felt nice and relaxed. Didn't stress about the pace, except pushed it the last .5 uphill. Strides tomorrow then 4 mile "Earn Your Turkey" race on Thursday. If I'm lucky, I'll place in my age. As bad as I want to drop out and put my daughter in my place, I'm going to use it as a good workout:) Happy (cold) running everyone!

Great race today. Warmed up with Julie C and Christi from the blog. It was good to meet Julie for the first time. She is full of energy (as you can tell from her blog). Loved it!

Felt good this morning, but knew the speed was certainly not going to be where I wanted it today, but felt good overall for the race.

Planned on being anywhere from 6:05-6:20 pace depending on how I felt today, ended up averaging 6:15. Splits were 6:08, 6:15, 6:20, 6:04ish...didn't stop the watch quite on time, but makes sense for the overall time.Plan was to take it easy the first two miles then push the last two. The third mile seemed slight uphill, last mile seemed slight down for part of it. I tried to hold back and not burn out early. I felt good the entire race and didn't feel like I could have pushed harder, but didn't feel burned out either.Really tried to push that last mile and felt good coming in. Placed 5th overall. Turkeys were given to top five and pretty much everyone else it seemed;) Nice run. Cooled down with Christi and Devra, the winner. Turns out she won St George a few years ago and ran a 2:34 or something like that. Christi and I also ran part of our cool down with Melody (runningwithbabies) from the blog...so fast and so cool too! Love the FRB family:) Stiff competition today, more than years past. Almost talked myself out of running this race about a million times this week, but so glad I did it! Happy Thanksgiving!

1 hour spin class. Dripped sweat, can't remember the last run I did when that happened. So must be good.
