Long-Term Running Goals:

I love training with others both on road and trail. I also find benefits of running solo when I need to focus and regroup.

Fun fact: Although I prefer to run outside, I don't mind the treadmill for pace accountability and for the blind assumption that I can run really fast. I have a lot of secret treadmill PR's at 0% incline:)

I was so impressed with the organization and great value of this race today, I must review.

The Big Cottonwood Marathon and Half does a phenomenal job with this event. This is by far the most organized, friendly, and perk filled race, I have attended in Utah. I have yet to run STG, however.) I was so impressed with everything from the web page to the finish. They really didn't skip a beat anywhere.

The goody bags have the usual, but also include a pair of gloves and an emergency blanket for the cooler start. The drop bags are shoe backpacks already labeled with your name and bib number, so easy to find at the finish. The shirts are a great fit, design and color- the best I've seen so far (too bad I ordered a size for my husband. I'm too good to him.)

The volunteers were friendly. The aid stations were spread out every 2 miles with drinks, candy and aid.

The course is beautiful, but very steep. Steepest I've ran. However, I hear Drop 13 is steeper.

Most of the buses were Le Bus's (how to make that plural, I don't know. Ask the French.)

Exiting off the bus, the POP's were plenty. I never did see the end of them.  There were also portable sinks to wash your hands afterwards.

The race started seamlessly on time. They had a flying helicopter camera capturing a birds eye view of the race that snapped pics. Did I mention all the pics taken are free and sent to FB?

The pacers were great (of course:) because Walter does a good job with American Flyers Race Pacesetters.

The finish had tons of massage therapists waiting to help. There must have been around 25 of them. Whole foods sponsored the food, so it was great.

Individualized printed results were made available as soon as you finish, even on a fancy card.

The metals are especially BIG and heavy. I guess it would have been ironic to have a small metal, considering the name. If it were solid silver, that might have been overkill, but  that is something for them to work on for next year:)

They really didn't miss the mark anywhere today, as far as I could tell. Josh Rohatinsky is part of the team who puts on this event. He was an an elite athlete for Nike, so he's been to some big races himself. It seems he took the best of those races and put it into a "BIG" event here in Salt Lake City. I'd love to do it each year.

Okay, review done.

Jed Burton helped me pace the 1:30 group. We had a group with us until the last mile, they fell behind or pushed ahead. My watch said 1:30 exactly, official results said 1:29:55. After the finish I got a massage, then realized I had a couple of hours to stop at every expo table and take something away. I was excited to see how Telly and Becky finished, as well as a few women from my morning running group. I ran back and found Telly and Becky. I ran with them in. It's always emotional to see others reach their goals and fight so hard. I ran  a bit more to find the others. Altogether, I got another 10 miles in, perfect for a long run day. Legs are tired.

Oh yeah, there were a ton of bloody nipples today. A ton.

The last sentence was a perfect cap to this report.

Jed Burton, not to be confused with Burton J. McCumber. You know what's ironic? That you spelled medals - metals - because iron is a metal.

It was so nice to meet you this morning. Great job on the pacing, I wish I could have stayed with you:)

Nice job pacing. I wish I would of seen the results, I missed that.

I paced today as well....way to go! I was at sf half.....i am hopefully not fired....two minutes 46 secs too fast...for 1:40. The wristbands were off so i threw it away and well three guys glad to have me to pace them as tbey were goi.g to slow....but then i saw the clock at 1:36 and was like oh no....so i cheered them to sprint without me i had to slow. Only one person came in just under 1:40. He and i had already chatted at mile 6 and he said he beats bill hiatt in marathons all the time and would catch me later....so me and adrenaline rushes are not good. Must pace real slow so i dont get a rush ha ha. Must have been hard for u to put the breaks on dow.hill like that. Ready for u to crush subthree.

Definitely one of the best organized races around. Thanks for helping Shantell and Becky. I know they really appreciated you going back for them.

Julie-I'm curious where I went wrong with the pacebands. I based them on the elevation changes as well as other runner's race splits from last year. Not sure what I did wrong but would like to fix it.

From Kass on Sun, Sep 15, 2013 at 12:16:49 from 98.202.223.143

Very nice! And really good pacing!

From JulieC on Sun, Sep 15, 2013 at 19:23:28 from 70.208.6.217

Miles 6 and 7 had me run my fastest miles.....7:15 ,7:15 . It was like it was put in in reverse....slower miles at finish....7:54 at mile 9 ....really off cause i knew the course from four years ago....i even looked at map with several of tbe other pacers and same thing miles uphill were six and seven...and splits on band were fastest for all pacers. And i noticed slowing at end for last four miles....they are mostly downhill/flat. Not upset andy jist found it more exciting as a pacer. :-) i should have slowedlast four but the three guys with me liked me there pusbing them....other than that i think when i get my splits downloaded i will share them witb u. No big deal.

From JulieC on Sun, Sep 15, 2013 at 19:27:55 from 70.208.6.217

I didnt use your band at all and just used my watch...your pace band was good to get the time i just got caight up with the followers. 9 to 13 my own fault going too fast.

From Tara on Sun, Sep 15, 2013 at 19:33:15 from 75.169.139.210

Allie- Mum's approval is all I need.

Jake- It had to be the 90% humidity. I even saw a bloody spot on the back of a guys jersey who was running with us. It kept getting bigger and bigger. It was either a big mole or a third back nipple. I couldn't stop staring.

Burt- That is a hard word to spell. I also don't care about your brother. Sorry, that sounded like something you would say.

Jessica- Next one!

Julie- You are something else! There aren't many like you who can push through pain like you , then turn around and run like you. It wouldn't have mattered if the band were any different, it sounds like you only know one pace anyway- Fast!

Andy- Great to see you. Hope I didn't ruin the moment at the end with you and Becky. When you joined up, I kept thinking, I should leave but I never listen to myself, I just do what I want. It was fun to watch you run right by her and coach her in. Much congrats to her! BTW are your legs in pain? Mine are sore! What?

Kassi- Thanks, you should try it sometime!

From JulieC on Sun, Sep 15, 2013 at 20:50:44 from 70.208.5.5

Tara.....i hadnt run that course since i met you the first time running the sf10k passing me at the last 0.1 miles with your awesome fast finish. :-)

From Andy on Mon, Sep 16, 2013 at 02:42:08 from 76.27.65.244

Crap! The wrong factors were copied to the output spreadsheet. I have no idea how that happened. The real Spanish Fork factors had the slow downs in the right place. I think that I am the one that is going to get fired by Walter.

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, Sep 16, 2013 at 14:43:42 from 66.232.64.4

Sounds like a really fun race. Maybe I'll try it out next year.

"It was either a big mole or a third back nipple" HAHA!

From Telly on Tue, Sep 17, 2013 at 21:51:21 from 174.23.160.216

My personal hero! Seriously! I need you at all of my races to run me in. That was the most helpful thing. If I can run at your speed I will run you in one day. I'm a woman of my word. ;)
