Long-Term Running Goals:

I love training with others both on road and trail. I also find benefits of running solo when I need to focus and regroup.

Fun fact: Although I prefer to run outside, I don't mind the treadmill for pace accountability and for the blind assumption that I can run really fast. I have a lot of secret treadmill PR's at 0% incline:)

Early TM run. I watched part of "Limitless" to make the time go by. It worked and the miles flew by before I had to get out the door to work. 6 miles, picked up last 4 miles to 7:30, 7:00, 7:00, 6:40. AP at 7:03. Felt fine for being this early and probably should have picked it up more, but why?

Easy 5 miles, 43 mins. Dragging today. I started watching Prison Break with the pilot this morning. Maybe it will get me to run on the treadmill more.

Walking warmup...took forever to just go. 5 miles, 42:10. It's clear  the combo of early mornings on the treadmill are not my favorite.

The air quality is killing me. It should start to get better by Friday, but then a big storm is coming.. doomed to the TM and gym for a while. Maybe I'll brave it out on Saturday.

I'm loosing motivation to run the Ogden marathon and wanting to chicken out and move to the half. The marathon distance is just not my favorite but I really want to hit my time goal. I need motivation and I can find it if I dig deep. It's hard to force, huh.

1 mile warm up

Off to the gym. The snow is terrible. Core and hip work afterwards.

2 hours of snow shoveling. This counts for something.

2 more hours of snow shoveling. I shoveled half the block of sidewalks and three driveways! My back hurts.

4.5 miles on the elliptical on level 10. 60 mins. Ab work thereafter. If it's not the snow, it's the air quality. Running has gone down the drain for the past 1.5 weeks!

I slipped on the ice the other day and bruised up my knee pretty good but it wasn't an issue today. Like everyone else, I am so tired of the snow, cold, and inversion. I can't wait for spring running!

I took the day off of running due to an achy knee from last weeks fall. It certainly looks worse than it really is though. I probably could have ran on it, but instead I spent my energies on snow removal. Frustrating obligation Rewarding opportunity to cross training like most of the other Utahn's with a "three-a-day" workout spent shoveling. The snow is heavier this time around. I'm not sure what the totals around Utah are right now, but the Bountiful bench looks hopeless. Oh, how I dream of Spring...

Knee seems to be fine now so off to the TM for a little bit speed work after a 2 mi wu.

5 mile continuous change of pace workout

4X800 @ 6:31, 7:15, 6:28, 7:00

1600 @ 6:20

4x200 @ 6:00, 6:45, 6:00, (90 sec bathroom break),6:00,

2x400 @ 6:00,7:00

1600@ 6:15

To simplify, this could be looked at as a progression run with 5mi@ 6:53, 6:44, 6:20, 6:20, 6:15= 32:20 (6:28 AP)

.5 mile cd

It was hard to get going during the wu. It didn't help that I had my toddler and puppy sitting right next to the TM. I threatened my little buddy not put cars and trains on the belt. So instead he tore into a box of styrofoam then entertained himself  by throwing the small balls of foam on the belt as I ran. He must have known how much I have missed running outside, so he recreated the outdoors- in. It felt like I was running in a room of snow. Quite the scenery.

I can't remember the last time I challenged my regular pace in a workout, several months for sure. I kept thinking about Sasha's post on injury prevention by avoiding "hero workouts." With that in mind, I knew I shouldn't challenge the pace too much and stay realistic with my current fitness level, so kept it around half marathon-marathon pace which felt enough of a challenge for today. I'm glad I got this in, but I have a lot of work to put in before Ogden.

Early gym workout. I thought about running, but my legs would not pick up once on the TM. A little sore too. I think I even have a shin splint:) The last time I had one of those was freshman year of high school. It's either that or the result of wearing my compression socks to bed. I pulled those puppies off this morning and my legs complained all the way to the gym. Decided to head to the Elliptical. I kept a moderate pace but perhaps a lazy pace at the same time, then picked up the last 10 minutes. 3 miles. Afterwards I felt like running but had to go to work. Maybe tomorrow I'll start off on the elliptical for a warm-up then attempt the TM. I don't know why early TM running for me is so hard for me. It must be mental.
