Long-Term Running Goals:

I love training with others both on road and trail. I also find benefits of running solo when I need to focus and regroup.

Fun fact: Although I prefer to run outside, I don't mind the treadmill for pace accountability and for the blind assumption that I can run really fast. I have a lot of secret treadmill PR's at 0% incline:)

Anyone here in the SLC Davis area are likely having the same issues....planned for a longish run this AM, but that plan went south due to the wind storm. So no run, just good highlights to share.

12:00am-My husband came home from work to take down the tramp, then went straight back.

4am-My 8 year old daughter came into my room  to report bombs going off. Calmed the delusional girl down and sent back to bed.

4:30 am- I'm thinking I'm the delusional one as I  witnessed "bombs"  going off all over the valley. Electric explosions all around, counting one in my yard that woke me up.

6am-  I notice our 30 foot pine tree decided it was time to un-root itself. It landed perfectly inbetween our home and our neighbors home without damage.

I take a shower as the electricity goes out. I realize I don't have a towel or clothes around. Fun scavenger hunt in my birthday suit.

6:30-All three kids and I watch all the wind out the window and see things flying around and hitting our window.

7:30 We realize "the flying things" are parts of our roof and shingles. We also notice weird shaped fans and things that belong somewhere on our roof.

900-Kids go to school and see many trees, powerlines and ambulances around. Someone at the school says you can stay, but we have no power or heat. We leave.

9:30- My 5 year old gets excited and thinks toys from the North pool are going to start blowing into our yard. I tell him that won't happen as we witness a yellow music player blow past our window. I hear him squeel, "It's starting!!!"

This is nothing compared to other places that actually have natural disasters that are much more serious and scary. Sometimes stuff like this has to happen in Utah to keep us all in check:)

Alas, no run today. To those of you who braved the wind, I salute you.

Only thing your "story" was missing was some Wizard of OZ references. You definately have some optimistic children.

Oh my gosh, that was awesome!

You are not a tramp. Even though you walk around your house naked.

Burt-LOL.

Chad- yes, it appeared that way today:)

got a great laugh out of your entry (however sorry about the ol' tree!!) so apparently your daughter was not delusional. wow!! a light show in the night!! crazy!! okay so while running in part of this wind storm (but it wasn't really that windy by my house, but of course I ran 7 miles away from my house to find it!!) I was placing my gloves inside my shirt and saw BRIGHT red on my stomach from the WIND BURN!! My stomach was numb to the touch and very could ofcourse. My sweat froze apparently as I headed east into the wind. Was not happy at that point in my run. Had some debris, but no toys. DARN : D. your boy is real cute!!

"it's starting!" hahaha.

i'm very sorry to hear about all the damage to your home and surrounding area. what a crazy, crazy storm. you were wise not to venture out in it -- it was very scary running around the streets with garbage cans and debris blowing in all directions (and it wasn't even as bad in SLC -- i can't even imagine!)

good luck getting everything patched up. if you are interested in a run on saturday there is a group meeting @8am for 10-12 miles on the jordan river parkway (3300 south entrance to the trail). would love to see you.

Wow, that was entertaining. Sorry to hear about your roof. My parents live in kaysville and thet are probably going to have to replace theirs. What a crazy storm. I'm glad you are all safe.

sorry about the damage!! I didn't think it was funny that the wind was damaging just the way you presented it all!!

From Christi on Sat, Dec 03, 2011 at 15:02:28 from 67.199.177.151

Haha, funny story-though sorry to hear about your tree and roof:( I heard about the wind storm and thought of you being in the thick of it...so sorry-good thing you didn't run-you might have been swept away.

Hope everything is okay at your house. What's up with you Summers anyway? No blogging from you or Sheridan?

From James on Tue, Dec 06, 2011 at 01:08:53 from 71.213.52.168

Glad you were safe with all of the crazy wind and that nothing was too badly damaged at your home. The birthday suit scavenger hunt sounds like it was a highlight!:)
