Long-Term Running Goals:

I love training with others both on road and trail. I also find benefits of running solo when I need to focus and regroup.

Fun fact: Although I prefer to run outside, I don't mind the treadmill for pace accountability and for the blind assumption that I can run really fast. I have a lot of secret treadmill PR's at 0% incline:)

This morning I woke up at 5:30 to travel to Spanish Fork for a 5k. After warming up I went to the starting line and saw a girl named Holly who has won it in the past. I knew she would take it again, and that was okay, I was not going to challenge her on 5:50 miles today, perhaps another time:) The gun went off and she went out like a bandit with some guy. I followed behind them the entire race.I felt smooth and comfortable for the most part. The grade had some drawn out hills but nothing too tough. The first mile was flat with a small up hill, second mile was a gradual uphill and the third was a gradual downhill. The last 200 m was frustrating! I guess the police were off so they left thier post and runners vulenerable to cross a busy 4 lane street. So after almost gettting hit by TWO cars each coming different directions, I had to stop and wait for traffic with the finnish line just ahead of me. I give myself another 10 secs at least for my own personal records:) Attempted to pull myself together for a fast finish for the last 30 seconds of the race for an official time of 19:40. Without looking at my splits at the moment, they were around-  6:14, 6:26, 6:23, and 5:30 (.10). (6:20 AP). I finished 3rd overall men and women, 2nd in women and 1st in age. This was a smaller race, I think only about 100 participants total. Nice cool morning and a great toon up for TOU next weekend! Oh, and the best part...the course actually measured dead on at 3.1 according to Garmin!

You had to stop and wait? That is so frustrating! Well, despite that you still ran a great time. The 5k pace will make your marathon pace next weekend feel like a breeze!

I thought about Bandit running this. I got over it :)

Your time is supereb given the course and the stops. The two SF races today are not easy by any means. Way to punch it Tara!:)

great job, tara! i'm sorry that you had to stop for the cars though. that is frustrating. i had that happen to me last year in a 5k. i just put out my hand and pointed to my bib# as i dashed in front of a pick-up truck. he was so annoyed with me :)

you're looking sharp for TOU next week. hopefully i'll see you there.
