Long-Term Running Goals:

I love training with others both on road and trail. I also find benefits of running solo when I need to focus and regroup.

Fun fact: Although I prefer to run outside, I don't mind the treadmill for pace accountability and for the blind assumption that I can run really fast. I have a lot of secret treadmill PR's at 0% incline:)

I have been off for several days after the Dr suggested that I have complete rest with no cross training.  The guess is that I have a bulging disc in my lower back. I don't want to pay for the MRI so we are treating like it is. Rest. So I took several days off of complete exercise and couldn't stand the way I felt anymore. Going 100 to a 0 can make anyone go crazy in the head! So I decided to walk/run to see how I felt. No standard mileage, just went by feel. Walked the hill at the beginning and the end and ran 2.75. Four miles total. Back was fine, glut and hammy were bothersome to a small degree. I jogged pretty slow, but I know that If I had put any effort into my pace or stride, it wouldn't be good. Noticed my fitness is lacking too, just stale. I know it will all come back in due time. At this point UV  is looking very dismal. Oh well, my friend Christi from the blog was injured up until literally the night before  last year and ran UVM in with a PR. So I won't call it quits until the last minute. If I'm able to do it, I might just have to redefine my expectations. Just not sure about that hill......

Has anyone used the compression biking shorts, if so, do you like them or think they are helpful? I know Andrea uses some....

So will a bulging disk go away with rest?

I wear compression shorts...CEP and Zoot brands. I mainly wear them to prevent jarring in my hamstrings (of which they help a lot). I think other people just like the support. Although they are not fun to wear when it's really hot outside!

Tara I wear these compression shorts: http://www.aspaerispivotshorts.com/ I won them for free and didn't know what to expect but I really really like them.

Don't throw in the towel for UVM yet. Can you cross train at all?

From Tara on Sat, May 26, 2012 at 07:58:20 from 159.212.71.200

for the info. I haven't been able to cross train till this week but have taken it pretty conservative. We will see. Thanks for the comment:)Burt- Yes. Quite the competition.

Rye-biking is sounding more and more enticing lately:)

Andrea- Yeah, rest a cure?:) The idea is to help decrease inflamation and let the tissues relax and not put pressure on the nerves. What did you do to your back again? What kind of specialist did/do you see? Thanks for the info on the tights.

Christi- I am crossing my fingers. If I do the race, I will not be competing. Covering the distance alone without pain will be my challenge alone:) I will use it more like a long run...but I really want to watch everyone run too....

Rachelle-Thanks for the info. I have been able to cross train very limited, I will see how I do with some running this week. Thanks for the comment:)
